“There is only one happiness in life to love and be loved.” – George Sands

Much of what makes us happy is down to the kind of relationships we have with our loved ones! These relationships are formed from connections made between two people, it could be a mother-daughter bond, friendship, or your significant other.

These relationships are where many of us get our strength and our ability to deal with adversity, from the moment we are born we are thrust into the art of building and developing relationships.

But arguably the most important relationship is the one we have with our significant other! It can often be the difference between a happy you and an unhappy you!

Maintaining a healthy relationship can be tricky but here are some tips to help:

Communication – is key! Listen – don’t be too hasty to point the finger, don’t make assumptions and don’t let the heat of the moment dictate your behaviour.

Respect – Relationships flourish when everyone’s opinions, feelings and beliefs are respected.

Show support – You either both win or both lose, relationships work best with a team mentality.

Deal with conflict properly! – Don’t hold grudges; work through problems together! Conflict is a natural part of every relationship so address the problem it will help to eliminate bad feelings.

Share decision making – Healthy relationships are a full partnership, beware, what equality looks like for you may not be what it looks like for others.

Gratitude – A shining example of a healthy relationship is one where each partner is grateful for the other, this applies to all relationships!  Being grateful and showing gratitude will heal breaking bonds and boost any relationship!

Ultimately maintaining a good relationship is much easier when you know the person intimately! When you know someone inside and out forging a lasting relationship becomes a walk in the park!  You should know all there is to know ask questions about them, enquire about their lives, their past what they do like and what they don’t like.  As mentioned above communication is key and can make or break your relationship!

I’ve read this eBook and quite like it, it’s a great start for getting to re-know your partner. It covers the serious stuff that often go under the radar along with the light-hearted stuff. Ultimately, if most of the answers you hear are in line with your own then great! But if not, then you know you have work to do!
